O head of Russian diplomacy arrived today in Tehran for an official visit, at a time when the US President relieved the sanctions against Moscow and argued that Russia does not help Iran in the war.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, shortly after landing in the capital of the Islamic Republic, met with Abbas Araghchi.

During the meeting, the heads of diplomacy discussed bilateral, regional and international issues, according to the Iranian agency IRNA.

The spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Bagaei, indicated on Sunday that the visit aims to monitor the implementation of bilateral agreements and exchange views on regional and international events.

According to Russian agency TASS, Lavrov will also be welcomed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and will present the measures that Moscow is taking to reduce tensions related to the war between Iran, the United States and Israel.

The visit takes place after President Donald Trump attenuated the application of sanctions against Russia and ensured that Moscow is not helping Tehran in the conflict that began on February 28.

Lavrov will also address with Iranian interlocutors the results of the meetings he held on Sunday in Manama, Bahrain, with representatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), who asked Russia to use its relations with Tehran to end Iranian attacks against the countries of this Arab alliance, composed of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Oman.

Iran has launched dozens of attacks on US bases and targets in Arab countries during the first forty days of the war and keeps the Ormuz strait blocked, which has disrupted navigation on this strategic maritime passage, where it continues to launch attacks on ships and oil tankers.
