Mozambique had in the second quarter of 2026 almost half a million e-money agents, plus 27,333 in three months, consolidating mobile financial services as the main channel of financial inclusion in the country.

Data from Mozambique Bank financial inclusion reports compiled today by Lusa show that the central bank accounted for 494,955 e-money agents throughout the country at the end of the second quarter of 2026, plus 27,333 than the 467,622 registered in the previous quarter.
These agents allow payments of services, transfers and withdrawals of money without recourse to a traditional banking agency.
Mozambique currently has three electronic money operators, M-Pesa, e-Mola and M-Kesh, who provide financial services via mobile phone and are the main channel for expanding financial inclusion in the country, as well as 15 banks.
Overall, including traditional banking, Mozambique had 532.761 access points to financial services at the end of June, 44.861 more than those registered at the end of the first quarter of 2026.
The city of Maputo continued to concentrate the largest number of access points, with 87,833, followed by Nampula, with 78,089, and the province of Maputo, with 74.168.
The traditional banking network had coverage in 128 districts, corresponding to 82.6% of the national total, with no changes compared to the previous quarter. The density of banking agencies was 9.09 per 10,000 square kilometres at the end of the second quarter, slightly below 9.13 in the first three months of the year.
Bank of Mozambique also accounted for 650 banks, 77 microbank and credit cooperative agencies, 329 bank agents, 1,291 ATMs (ATM) and 31,316 automatic payment terminals (POS).
