Sahara Ray, model and daughter of Australian surf legend Tony Ray, died on Monday, October 19, at age 34, according to TMZ.
“ He died last night, surrounded by his family, in the hospital. It was very dear”, said the model family through a statement. Cause of death has not yet been revealed.
According to People magazine, Sahara Ray was a native of Australia and grew up in Santa Cruz, California.
“ Every winter, I spent three months on the north coast of Hawaii with my father,” she recalled her own model when she was interviewed by GQ in 2015.
“ He was a professional surfer, so I used to travel everywhere with him while he competed at Pipe Masters and in giant wave competitions”, he also recalled.
Sahara Ray was well known in the digital world. He added 900,000 followers on Instagram and earned fame with his modeling career. He also launched his own line of beach clothes (bathwear and bikinis), the Sahara Ray Swim.
In 2016, Sahara Ray was featured in the international press after spending some time with singer Justin Bieber, having been photographed on vacation with the singer in Hawaii. People remember that the model was also linked to singer Cody Simpson.
In August 2025, Sahara Ray announced that she was pregnant and shared on social networks the evolution of pregnancy. She was then the mother of little Snow in January of this year, but only made the first publication with her daughter on Instagram months later, in April.
In 2024, the model revealed that it had been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome. According to the CUF website, this is “a rare autoimmune disease that can lead to damage of myelin, nerve insulating layer (demyelination), or, in peripheral nerves, to degeneration of axons – the part of the nerve responsible for conducting nerve impulses. Being an autoimmune disease, the reason for its occurrence is not fully known”.
“ The main symptoms are tingling and lack of strength in the hands, feet and legs and, if there is an evolution of this condition, even paralysis of the muscles of the whole body and inability to breathe can be achieved.
This means that Guillain-Barré syndrome is, in its most severe state, a hospital emergency and requires hospitalization in the intensive care unit for treatment.
Guillain-Barré syndrome can affect anyone, of any age or gender, although it is more common in adults and the elderly than in children. It is estimated that it affects one in 100,000 people per year and, although there is no cure, the treatment of this syndrome offers a total recovery to most patients ", can still be read on the CUF website.
