“ Leipzig, airport (...) They found a drone there. They said he was Russian and nobody bothered to dig deeper. In general, this is essentially the beginning of a real war,” said Serguéi Lavrov in Russian television statements.

On the night of August 4, a drone loaded with explosives was found in the cargo operations area of Leipzig Airport, near several Ukrainian cargo planes, and a second device will have hit a DHL carrier plane shortly thereafter.

Ten days later, investigators found a third drone in a field in Kabelsketal in the state of Saxony-Anhalt near the western airport.

Leipzig Airport is an important European cargo transport centre and is used as a transit point for sending military aid to Ukraine.

The German Government held Russia responsible for the “hybrid attack” and announced the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn from 18 September, and – among other things – cancel the contract that allows the Casa Russia cultural centre to operate in Berlin and convene the Russian ambassador to Berlin for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week that Germany has no evidence against Moscow and associated Berlin's accusations with the difficult internal political situation of the European nation.
