“ Ccountered the attacks on railway infrastructure in western Ukraine, which is used to transport military cargo from European countries,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznytsia had today warned that a “systematic attack” was on the network “all over the country”, after the President, Volodymyr Zelensky, had indicated that a Russian drone had hit a train near the Polish border without causing any casualties.

Zelensky said that Moscow hit the train “deliberately”.

The Polish railway company PKP Intercity said that the train, with 206 passengers on board, made the connection between Kyiv and Warsaw.

According to a statement from Ukrzaliznytsia, known Western personalities, such as former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former CIA director David Petraeus, were at a railway station in western Ukraine “just before” Russia hit a train in the region.

“ Just before the locomotive was hit at the border between Ukraine and Poland, a diplomatic train was at Yahodyn station,” said the statement quoted by France-Presse news agency (AFP).

“ Among others, security advisers from several EU Member States and former European leaders, including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, were on board. Another train that was at Yagodyn station at the time of the attack was former CIA director David Petraeus,” he added.

A spokesman from the Polish Ministry of Interior also told AFP today that a Russian drone hit a gas station in Ukraine two kilometres from the Polish border.

“ The unmanned aircraft hit a gas station in the city of Yahodyn, two km from the Polish border,” said Karolina Galecka, adding that after the attack “two trucks” burned down.
