A Judicial Police (PJ), in collaboration with the Republican National Guard (GNR), through the Coastal and Border Control Unit (UCCF), with the support of the Navy and the Air Force, have in recent days developed a joint police operation to combat international drug trafficking by sea.
The operation, to which Barcas was named, culminated, according to PJ, in arrest of four foreign citizens and seizure of some 1.1 tonnes of hashish pollen in the Port of Barcas in São Teotónio, municipality of Odemira, Alentejo.
The operation took place, according to the statement sent this Friday, November 6, to the News to Minutes, “following the identification of a suspicious High Speed Boat (EAV), manned by several unidentified people whose presence near the Portuguese coast was not justified”.
Home searches were also carried out, and a car with a false license was seized, as well as several surveillance cameras, “which were strategically placed to control police movements and communications equipment”.
Detainees, aged 16 to 43 years, will be present this Friday the first judicial interrogation, to apply the appropriate coercion measures. Investigations continue.
In the statement sent by GNR on the same situation, the military adds that the police operation also had the support of the Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre (MAOC-N) within the framework of international police cooperation.
