O secretary-General of the PS said today that the Montenegro/Ventura/IL rent law became a “social fuse”, so the Prime Minister should put it in the drawer and create another to “protect young people, families and the elderly”.
“ For me there is only one way: it is to take the law and put it in the drawer, because it comes to unprotect the younger and the families and it comes to throw the older into uncertainty. Unless you want to feed this social fuse launched by AD (PSD/CDS-PP), Arriga and Liberal Initiative (IL)”, said José Luís Carneiro, in statements to journalists on arrival at the Biennial Museum of Cerveira, in Vila Nova de Cerveira, in the district of Viana do Castelo.
Out of the question is the possibility that the PS will change the sense of vote (abstention) in the State Budget (OE) if the Government does not decline in the “Montenegro, Ventura and IL law”, Carneiro said.
“ We have a word [relative to the OE]. The E.R. isn't windy. Creating a political crisis at this time would be a great responsibility. But it is clear that this greater responsibility lies with the government, because it is the government that has to guarantee stability in the country,” he said.
Carneiro explained that “the PS is doing everything it can to ensure stability for the country and avoid a political crisis” and, on the other hand, is “working for a lasting solution from the point of view of housing”.
Protests for the right to housing and CGTP demonstrations against the “brutal increase” in prices of houses, fuels and food baskets are taking place today in several cities of the country, including Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra.
In Porto, in the early hours of Thursday, a camp for the right to housing that began on Saturday was the subject of a police charge from which resulted four dozen wounded, with the organization ensuring that it was peaceful and the PSP to defend that there was “resistance”.
On Thursday night, about 3,000 people concentrated in Porto to express themselves by the right to housing.
