O executive, composed essentially of executives of the Vetevendosje (VV, Self-determination), Kurti's party defending a left-wing social policy and a nationalist orientation, was approved with 62 votes, a total of 120 deputies, advanced the president of parliament, Albulena Haxhiu.

The new government was elected with the support of the MEPs representing minorities, with the exception of the Serbian minority.

The two main opposition parties boycotted the session, found a journalist from the France-Press news agency (AFP).

In the June 7 elections, Vetevindosje obtained 47.13% of the votes, guaranteeing 53 terms.

In a speech before the vote, Kurti assured that social issues would be among the priorities of the new government.

With regard to foreign policy, Kurti said that obtaining the status of candidate country to the European Union was still the main objective and priority strategic orientation.

Although Kurti’s party has achieved an “ overwhelming victory” in the three legislative elections held since February 2025, including two early elections in December 2025 and in June this year, the 51-year-old Prime Minister failed to negotiate with the opposition parties an exit to the institutional crisis due to deep political divisions.

The main obstacle is the election of the President of this young country, the former Serbian province that proclaimed independence in 2008.

The President is elected by the parliament, requiring a two-thirds majority.
