Dunknown to many, Bartosz Mazurek became, this week, one of the most popular names of Portuguese football, after a the British sports press have associated it with the interest of several clubs, including FC Porto and Benfica, already with a view to the winter transfer market.
Formed in Jagiellonia Bialystok, the only 19-year-old player gave the ‘jump’ to Salzburg last summer, for a sum of six million euros, and it was not long before winning a seat in the eleven-year-old, having even added two goals and three assists after 15 official matches in all competitions.
Despite the ‘tender’ age, the average is already proving to be prepared to take on other ‘flights’, in such a way that it has also aroused attention in the Premier League (more specifically Brighton) and in the Bundesliga (in this case, that of Borussia Dortmund), which have also been following him closely.
Will FC Porto and Benfica be able to ‘finite’ such competition and ensure the hiring of that which is already considered one of the highest values of Polish football? Or will the sports (and financial) arguments of other destinations speak louder? O Sports to Minute analyzes the pros and cons of this rumor.
Why can it happen?
If there is one thing for which Portuguese football is well known, beyond borders, it is because of the ability to ‘cut diamonds’ (as is the case with Bartosz Mazurek) and project them to other levels, opening the doors of some of the most powerful championships of international football.
In view of the potential that is recognized to the medium, this would, moreover, perhaps be the ultimate opportunity for the two eternal rivals of Portuguese football to be able to ‘rescue it’, before it gets even more in the eye and calls attention to ‘tumors’ with another kind of financial power.
It is also necessary to take into account the particular case of FC Porto, which, in recent years, has invested with a particular impact on Polish football, consummating the acquisitions of Jan Bednarek, Jakub Kiwior and Oskar Pietuszewski, a scenario that may also serve as a ‘chamariz’ for this young promise.
Why can't it happen?
Although Salzburg is not exactly a ‘heavy weight’ of European football, the truth is that it belongs to the ‘universe’ of Red Bull, which includes clubs such as Leipzig, New York Red Bulls or Bragantino, which gives it another type of ‘muscle’ to preserve those who are its main sports assets.
In fact, it would certainly not be easy to convince the current second-rate Austrian championship to give up a medium which, less than half a year ago, signed a valid contract until June 2031, which gives it more than enough room for manoeuvre to resist any attacks.
Bartosz Mazurek himself will know, moreover, that it is in the ideal landscape to put into practice the qualities that are recognized to him, so it would take an extra effort to make him believe that it would be a good idea to leave a club that, only in recent years, designed players such as Erling Haaland, Sadio Mané or Dominik Szoboszlai.
Every week Sports to Minute presents a new edition of the heading ‘The rumor of the week’, which aims to analyze, in detail, the circumstances surrounding the most popular business in the transfer market.
