“ A Costa Rican Football Federation reports that Bryan Ruiz González was appointed as coach of the senior male team of Costa Rica after concluding the contractual agreements. The decision of the Executive Committee gives continuity to the work begun by Ruiz during his meetings ahead of the ‘tricolor’ as interim coach and is part of the objective of consolidating a new stage for the national selection”, reads in the statement.
After replacing Argentine Fernando Batista, who won a draw and five defeats in seven months in Costa Rica, Bryan Ruiz, 41 years old, won the two games he played, in front of Nicaragua (3-0) and Haiti (2-0), which left Costa Rica in the fourth position of Group A of the League of Nations of North America, Central and Caribbean (CONCACAF), safe from demotion.
Third most international footballer in the history of Costa Rica, with 147 meetings, scored by 29 goals, between 2005 and 2022, Bryan Ruiz played three World Cups, one Cup America and six Gold Cups by the main team of the ‘ticos’, with which he won a Central American Cup in 2014.
Formed in Alajuelense, in which he began and finished his career as a player and debuted as a coach, Bryan Ruiz represented the Belgians of Gent, the Dutch of Twente and PSV Eindhoven, the English of Fulham or the Brazilians of Santos and snatched a League Cup and a Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup in three seasons by Sporting, between 2015 and 2018.
