O spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez today considered that the results of Tuesday’s mid-term elections in the United States show the collapse of the “radical wave” and that it will also happen in Spain.

The Democrats impose a heavy political defeat on American President Donald Trump by regaining control of Congress, so far dominated by Republicans.

“ American society voted against policies that only impoverish. Against hate. Against sexism. Against climate denialism and against the privileges of elites,” Sánchez wrote on social networks, quoted by the French agency AFP.

“This happened in Brazil [re-election of Lula da Silva]. It just happened in the United States. And it will soon happen in Spain,” said the socialist leader, alluding to the early elections of November 29.

In power since 2018, Sánchez will run again in the early elections, having as main rivals the leader of the conservatives, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and the extreme right, Santiago Abascal.

“ The radical wave that Feijóo and Abascal intend to take advantage of is no longer growing: it is falling apart”, added Sánchez, also quoted by the Spanish agency EFE.

Unable to pass in parliament two diplomas aimed at halting the housing crisis affecting the whole country, Sánchez called early legislative elections in early October to 29 November.

The election campaign has since been marked by the railway disaster in Urda, south of Madrid, which caused at least 69 deaths last week, in the second very serious accident on the Spanish railway network in less than a year.

On Wednesday night, the Minister of Transport, Oscar Puente, a neighbor of Sánchez, announced his resignation.

According to the provisional data from the U.S. interims, Democrats had secured at least 54 seats in the Senate and 225 in the House of Representatives, exceeding the necessary majorities in both chambers.

The conquest of the Senate was the biggest surprise of the election night, after the Democrats withdrew from Republicans at least seven places, including in traditionally conservative states such as Texas, Kansas, South Carolina, Ohio, and Iowa.

The results represent a profound change in the political balance in Washington and will force Trump to face a Congress controlled by the opposition during the last two years of his presidential term.

USA. Historical night on midterms: Blue turn leaves Donald Trump “cox”

After two years, the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States are again dominated by Democrats in midterm elections, marking a significant change in American politics. The victory can impact the decisions of President Donald Trump, who attributed the defeat partially to the war in Iran.
