O Pantheon will keep the time of 11 p.m. every day except on Thursdays, while the Colosseum will extend the time until 11:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, according to a statement from the ministry.

“The objective is to facilitate the lives of tourists, rationalize and manage the flows of visitors and encourage visits in the least hot hours and at times of the day more appropriate to working hours”, the statement specified.

The Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, quoted in the statement, considered that “making these places even more accessible promotes their discovery and reinforces the awareness of their value”.

In Milan, Castello Sforzesco, an old fortress in the centre of the city that houses eight museums, also adhered to this initiative, and will extend every day of August its operating hours in two hours, until 7:30 (18:30 in Lisbon).
