Jdid you see these bright insects in your house? They are usually more active during the night and in damper spaces such as bathrooms and garages. Considering the “fish speed” tend to be confused with centipedes, but with fewer legs.
According to Web MD in terms of public health there is no cause for alarm. These insects without wings, do not sting, nor are they poisonous. However, they may resemble creeping moths and consequently give rise to a plague. Some also identify them as “the bedbugs of moisture”.
Although they can be found anywhere, these insects record a more pronounced development in spaces with a high humidity level – hence the ease of reproduction in places such as bathrooms.
“ Depending on the species, a female silverfish can produce from one to three eggs a day. And how each of these can live up to two years, it is extremely important to know how to handle an infestation in a fast and total way”, clarifies Jeremy Christopherson, from Truly Nolen Pest Control in Tucson, Arizona.
How can you get rid of the silverfish plagues?
This pest control professional reveals to the blog Martha Stewart the procedure that should take if you really want to get rid of these crawlers. Make a note of what you're gonna need to do.
Refer to dehumidifiers and fans in the bathrooms: “The silver-fished bedbug needs high moisture levels to survive, typically between 75 and 95 percent. This makes moisture control one of the most effective prevention and elimination strategies. Using dehumidifiers and fans is an excellent first step, especially in garages or areas where you usually store books.
Vent spaces properly: “Low moisture levels can actually delay or prevent hatching of the silverfish eggs,” Christopherson explains.
“Open the air vents and ensure good air circulation throughout the house.
Leaks: “ Quickly fix problems related to plumbing and other leaks, either on the roof or on the lower floors. Condensation problems attract these plagues.
Aspire well: “Pay attention to the footers and shelves where the eggs may be hidden and then don’t forget to discard the vacuum bag immediately.”.
Dispose of the dirt and get rid of the mess: “ Remove old books, newspapers, and magazines that may attract plagues.
“For items that may already have problems, such as books with evidence of silver fish, you can put them in a plastic bag and freeze them for several days to kill any insects or egg,” says Christopherson.
In the last case, if necessary, still use traps to attract and kill these types of animals.
