A European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced this Wednesday that at least 36 countries will participate in the 71st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, between 11 and 15 May 2027.
“A total of 36 broadcasters, representing about 600 million people, will bring songs and artists to Burgas, Bulgaria, to the 71st edition of the world’s largest live music event, one more than in 2026,” the UER said in a statement.
Portugal is one of the 36 countries already confirmed, such as Albania, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
On the other hand, Spanish and Slovenian broadcasters – RTVE and RTVSLO, respectively – “have not yet decided whether to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027” due to Israel’s participation. However, “recognizing the complexity of the issue, the EBU agreed to grant both stations by December to confirm their participation.”.
Canada, in turn, “will participate for the first time in the competition after becoming a full member of the EBU in July 2026”.
North Macedonia will return to the event after four years of absence.
From the outside, as happened last year, are the Netherlands, Ireland and Iceland due to the participation of Israel.
The Czech Republic also announced this month that will not participate in the 2027 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest due to “budgetary adjustments”
