Luís Pinto assures Gil Vicente ambitious: “Let’s go with maximum ambition”

O gil Vicente’s coach, Luís Pinto, today considered that the team will have to present themselves “at the best level” to counteract the strength and offensive quality of Benfica in the final rooms of the Football League Cup.

“ We expect an extremely solid Benfica, as it has been over the years, and with a very great offensive quality. It will require our best level to compete and be able to pass this qualifier ", said the technician.

In the preview of the trip to the Luz Stadium, scheduled for Thursday, Luís Pinto highlighted the depth of the ‘incarnate’ squad, considering that the changes promoted between games do not compromise the competitiveness of the opponent.

“ The solutions they have allow them to be a very competent and competitive team in all games,” he noted, ensuring that the Barcelenses face the qualifier with the ambition to “go ahead” for the final four.

“ Let's go with as much ambition as possible. We want to reach the Stadium of Light and overcome this elimination and stay in this competition ", assured, admitting to promote changes in the team due to the accumulation of games.

However, he rejected any intention to save players by considering the League Cup less important than the championship: “There will be some changes, but the team we will present will be one that gives us, at least from a theoretical point of view, the assurances of being able to compete in the Stadium of Light for the elimination.”.

Winner of the last edition of the League Cup at the service of Vitória de Guimarães, Luís Pinto recognized that the competition awakens good memories, but stressed that he intends to build new memories at the service of Gil Vicente.

“ We always believe that we can do things that can be marked in our lives. We have to have humility to be very competent and realize that we will have a game of a huge demand ", he said.

The coach also contested the current format of the League Cup, defending the return to a more comprehensive model that allows the clubs to compete more meetings and better prepare the start of the championship.

“ I think this competition should be played by all the clubs. It should not be so restricted”, he said, referring to the fact that League Cup is played by the top six classifieds of the previous edition of the I League and the first two of the II League.

Asked about Benfica's recent criticism of arbitration, Luís Pinto avoided polemic food and expressed confidence in the performance of the arbitration team.

“I want to believe in competence, goodwill and seriousness of everyone. We want the balance to be balanced, but this we want in all games ", stressed.

After the defeat against FC Porto, for the championship, the coach highlighted the importance of drawing lessons from the meetings with larger opponents, especially for a squad with several players not used to this level of demand.

“We weren’t happy with the result, but we weren’t in our process and in our belief that what we are doing is being done well,” he concluded.

Gil Vicente visits Benfica on Thursday, at 8:45 p.m., at the Luz Stadium in Lisbon, in a meeting of the final rooms of the League Cup, directed by referee José Bessa, of the Porto Football Association.
