Oil tanker hit by two unknown projectiles on the Oman coast

Uthe tanker was the target of an attack with two projectiles unknown when sailing in waters of the Strait of Ormuz, on the coast of Oman, today advanced the UK Maritime Operations Centre (UKMTO).

The body, linked to the British Navy, announced on its social networks that the incident occurred 14 nautical miles northeast of the city of Lima and that so far no victims or environmental damage have been recorded.

“ The person responsible for the safety of a tanker reported that two unknown projectiles hit the engine house,” the body said in a message.

UKMTO has once again recommended that vessels navigate carefully and report to the agency “any suspicious activity” in the region.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard today reported that, in the last 12 hours, three more tankers suffered damage following explosions caused by mines, when sailing for “unauthorised routes” in the Strait of Ormuz.

In the last three weeks, Iran has reported more than 30 incidents involving vessels, of which at least 20 were caused by naval mines, in that strategic maritime passage that Tehran has been trying to keep blocked since the beginning of the war with the United States and Israel on 28 February.

The most recent incidents occur at a time when Tehran and Washington have in recent days intensified negotiations to end the war, just before the mid-term elections in the United States.

The United States, which had not announced attacks on Iran for more than two months, bombed on Monday night the Iranian island of Qeshm in the south of the country in a limited military operation, reported The Wall Street Journal.

Iran did not confirm the US attacks on its territory, although it announced the capture of two U.S. drones south of Qeshm Island and the slaughter of a third to the east of Ormuz Strait.

The attacks arise at a time when the Americans vote in the mid-term elections, whose polls point to a potential victory of the Democrats who may have the majority in the two chambers of Congress (Chamber of Representatives and Senate).

Several American media, such as the Axios website, have reported the possibility of the war between the United States and Iran being resumed after the scrutiny that takes place today.
