“ O process aims to strengthen knowledge of the audiovisual sector contribution to national economies, promoting the use of this information ", says the Cinema and Audiovisual Network PALOP + Timor-Leste, in a statement.
The platform will be launched on September 5, in Maputo, by the Cinema and Audiovisual Network of African Portuguese Language Countries (PALOP) and Timor-Leste, which aims to create a systematized information base on the sector and update a survey conducted in 2019.
According to the document, the platform will aggregate the network activities and work simultaneously as a professional directory, through a mapping process that is being carried out in several Portuguese-speaking countries.
Those responsible also argue that the tool can function as an international window for professionals in the area. The objective is to promote “the dissemination of information about professionals and works in the international context, demonstrating and catapulting their potential contribution to national economies”.
The statement states that local teams are already collecting data on audiovisual professionals and companies in Mozambique, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste, with the start of this work in Guinea-Bissau by the end of the year.
“The platform will aggregate and allow the communication of all the activities of the network, also constituting the Professional Directory and Short Film Agency,” says the organization, adding that the initiative has the support of the CULTIV’ARTE programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France in partnership with the Mozambican Ministry of Education and Culture.
In addition to the presentation of the platform, the project provides for the creation of a Short Film Agency, whose launch is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. At this stage, the results of the sector mapping and a study on the creation of film commissions in the countries covered by the network should also be published.
The Cinema and Audiovisual Network PALOP + Timor-Leste is coordinated by the Association of Friends of the Cinema Museum in Mozambique (AAMCM), in partnership with entities from Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe, with funding from the Camões Institute, through the PROCERIS program.
