O polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has today intensified his attacks against the President of the country, to whom he has fully held responsibility for the enormous crisis in the Constitutional Court, which has shaken Poland since Friday.
The refusal of the Polish President, Karol Nawrocki, to give office to the new judges of the Constitutional Court caused a breach in court.
The European Commission has positioned itself alongside Tusk, who accuses his former political rival — the leader of the Law and Justice Party (PiS) and former Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski — of orchestrating a destabilization movement with the cooperation of Russia-powered President Nawrocki.
Today, Tusk reiterated that “the solution to the conflict is simple and possible without amendments to the Constitution”, simply that “the President recognises the judges legitimately elected by Parliament — as the Constitution establishes — so that they can take up their duties in the Court”.
Instead, according to Tusk, Kaczynski “opted for a forced confrontation, which can cost Poland dearly.”.
The Polish Prime Minister stressed that “a democratic rule of law cannot yield to violence, no matter how powerful the external forces that support the PiS’s attack” and promised that the country “will not give in” to these maneuvers.
Tusk released his message on social media — his first communiqué since Saturday, when he pointed directly to Moscow as the principal responsible for this crisis.
The Prime Minister specifically mentioned one of Moscow's leading spokesmen, former President Dmitri Medvedev.
“Medvedev said that a coup would be taking place in Poland and that ‘the Tusk liberals, protected from Brussels, oppress PiS conservatives’. All clear”, said Tusk.
