“I want to continue to see consolidated a cohesive, disciplined, professional, respected institution, prepared to fulfill its mission and absolutely faithful to the Republic. Remain united, preserve the chain of command, cultivate discipline, value merit, respect hierarchy and obey the Constitution and laws of the Republic ", appealed Carlos Vila Nova.
The head of State of São Tomé and Príncipe, who was sworn in on Thursday for the second term of five years, spoke at the celebrations of the 51 years of the Armed Forces of São Tomé and Príncipe (FASTP) that today are marked, with the oath to the flag of more than 350 new soldiers.
“ Do not allow political, personal, regional or other differences to enter the barracks and weaken what must unite all the military: service to the homeland. The Armed Forces must remain a factor of stability, trust, national union and peace among the Santomenses,” Carlos Vila Nova said.
The San Tomese President also asked the FASTP to contribute to the construction of a better future for the next generations.
“ We must [leave to future generations] a stronger Republic, stronger institutions and a society where the St. Tomenses know how to live even when they think differently,” he said.
Carlos Vila Nova also defended the commitment to cooperation with other countries and organizations in the field of Defense, but without ever abdicating the own responsibility of the Santomense State “to take care of its own defense”.
“ No friendly country can replace the responsibility of the Santomese themselves. Cooperation can support us, train us, advise us and help us develop capabilities, but the main effort must be ours,” he said.
