Production of Polestar 2 will have finished (but there is succession in sight)

The production of Polestar 2 will have ended recently. The model, released in 2019, has sold about 200,000 units and will be replaced by a new version already next year.

The first generation of Polestar 2 is about to say goodbye. Production of the Swedish model will have ended recently at the Luqiao factory in China.

The news is advanced by the British publication Autocar, which quotes TV 2 Broom from Norway. The manufacturer will have even stopped accepting factory orders not only in that country but also in Sweden. Auto to Minute sent a request for clarification to Polestar, awaiting an answer.

After being released in 2019, Polestar 2 reached the market the following year. In six years, it sold about 200,000 units (it took only two years to reach 100,000). The fastback was the Swedish brand's first large-volume electric, and was also updated in 2024.

New generation arrives in 2027

The end of production of the current Polestar 2 does not mean the end of life of the model. For 2027, the arrival of the new generation is expected. Executive director Michael Lohscheller assured AutoExpress that “will keep all the good things and add some“ that are not so good in the current vehicle – quoting as an example the space behind claimed by customers.

The model should be considerably different – at least so suggests the new design director Philipp Römers to AutoExpress: “The new design language, the strong evolution we are making, would change some things. But today’s design is a good car.”.

The future Polestar 2 should have a lower ground height and more sporty features, besides growing in length. The teaser of the car, in which the front is blurred behind a garage gate, suggests a very different identity, from the lower grid to the luminous signature – which is in line with, for example, the current Polestar 4 and 5. What is not known is whether or not it will continue to be based on Geely's Compact Modular Architecture platform, but the new model will continue to be produced in China.

Polestar 2 will change, without revolutions: “We will keep the good things”

Polestar 2 will be renewed as soon as next year. The future model will not be radically different from the current one, but it is expected to be longer and closer to the ground.
