Luís Filipe Borges, on the other hand, criticized the decision to fine people who drove by and honked in the form of protest against the police.
“Are you seriously ticketing people for horns? Genius, the country is safe! Bancarro never again! When they do the math on the money that the crowd owes for all the ball titles celebrated in this way, it is Portugal that will intercede with the IMF! And we still pay off the US foreign debt.”
Albano Jerónimo also did not remain silent and highlighted on his Instagram page a text by Tiago Rodrigues, where one could read:
“ The violent attacks by the police on the peaceful camps of Lisbon and Porto are a terrible symptom of authoritarian drift, repression of dissent and inability to hear the demands
– a trinity that has nothing to do with a democratic regime.
The 'mouvement lycéen' in France and those encamped by housing in Portugal are social mobilizations with many differences, but they have in common the fact that they were born of youth and have earned membership or support from broad sectors of society. I also think of the list of students in Serbia or the demonstrations in Spain and Italy or how the participation of Brazilian youth contributed to the progressive turn of the second round.
In all these cases, while respecting the many differences in each phenomenon, there is a youth that must be heard. And that is our duty as a society, because without this attentive listening, which dignifies those who are heard and those who listen, there is no dialogue or possible solutions to the problems.
Without listening, there is only the irresponsible gibberish with which we see some Members of the far right and the right expressing themselves, encouraging police brutality, unworthy, rude, with terms that should be the subject of formal accusations of incitement to violence (as is happening with figures and television channels of the French far right after the racist attack on Trappes). In order for political power to show that it is listening to youth, we must stop hearing the noise of boots and batons.”
