Proença reacts to CR7: “We want the captain with us...”

Pedro Proença reacted on Saturday afternoon to the disciplinary process instituted to Cristiano Ronaldo after abandoning the internship of the Portuguese national selection, at a time when he spoke to the journalists attending the inauguration ceremony of the Training Center of AF Porto.

“I’m not going to make any comments. It's a normal process. The instances will independently evaluate. The Federation wants the captain with us quickly. The selector also wants to have the captain with us. And, fundamentally, a great will of our captain to return to our selection. It is time to appeal to tranquility ", said the president of FPF after the event.

It should be recalled that the disciplinary procedure was applied this Saturday morning by the Portuguese Football Federation, which communicated officially through a statement from its Discipline Council.

“ Instigation of disciplinary proceedings to Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, by deliberation of the Non-Professional Section, of 9 October 2026, having as its object the establishment of possible disciplinary relevance of the facts involved on 7 October 2026”, can be read in the official note.

“ Without prejudice to the automatic preventive suspension to which it was subject until the date of the introduction, the non-automatic preventive suspension of the player was determined and attributed urgent nature to the process ", it also advances the CD.

The same statement states that the case has already been sent to the FPF’s Disciplinary Instruction Commission, “the advertising until the end of the investigation is excluded”.

What's next?

With the process sent to the FPF's Discipline Instruction Commission, the next step should be to notify Cristiano Ronaldo to comment and present the version of the facts.

From then on, the process will take place and the penalty will be decided. Still, the advanced Portuguese may fail the games of Portugal scheduled for November, if the decision is not known by then.

What punishment does CR7 risk?

In question, refer to, there will be a suspension between one and six months, as well as a fine, in accordance with Article 160 of the Discipline Regulation of the Portuguese Football Federation, which determines that any player “regularly summoned leaves or does not appear unjustified the training, game or activity of national selections or related to the sports representation of FPF or Portugal”.

However, according to the information provided by Record, the fact that Ronaldo admitted the error in the statement issued last Tuesday may reduce his sentence by half.

“ The consequence of my act must be evaluated and punished by the Portuguese Football Federation. I understand the punishment must not be extenuating. I'm not just any player, I'm a team captain and that's an aggravation. I said I'm sorry, but I know that attitudes have to have consequences. Whoever is in football as I am knows that, regardless of the status of each one, the rules are equal for all ", admitted CR7.

If the Disciplinary Board applies the minimum penalty and reduces the sentence to half, Cristiano Ronaldo may only serve 15 days of suspension. If the maximum penalty is imposed, the reduction to half will be three months.
