O president of the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) today argued that dialogue and common sense can solve incident with the advanced Cristiano Ronaldo in the selection, referring possible sanctions to the Council of Discipline (CD).

 

“ I believe that, with dialogue, with common sense, things will be resolved”, said Reinaldo Teixeira, in the margins of the inauguration of the second phase of the Training Center of the Porto Football Association.

The leader refused further considerations about the abandonment of the captain of the internship selection, as well as the disciplinary process instituted on Friday, by the CD of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), for being vice president of the body that governs the modality in the country.

“ It is not my job, nor should I express any opinion about the process, I do not know details ", explained, after Pedro Proença has already pronounced himself, finishing: “When there are presidents, the vice presidents do not speak.”.

Still, he classified Ronaldo as “the world’s largest football asset” and expressed the hope of an understanding that benefits Portuguese football, Portugal and the image of the country abroad.

Asked about the importance of a possible suspension or fine, the President of LPFP stressed the need for all actors to comply with the rules.

“What is important is that we all, sports agents, comply with the regulations,” he said, recalling that it is up to the FPF CD, as an autonomous body, to make a decision.

The leader also pointed out that Cristiano Ronaldo himself referred to the disciplinary issue in the statement he released.

On the criticism of club leaders to arbitration, the responsible reaffirmed his confidence in the arbitrators and rejected making “hurry judgments”.

“Professional football requires competent arbitration,” he said, recalling that errors also happen between managers, players and coaches.

As for the infrastructure opened today, Reinaldo Teixeira praised the work developed by the Portuguese association and highlighted the importance of investment for training and amateur football.

“ It is striking for the country, it is striking for professional football, it is striking for all of us. There is only professional if there is, in fact, training”, he concluded.
