A Public Security Police (PSP) received the indication, about 6 a.m., to advance on the protesters who were camped in Lisbon and Porto. Minutes earlier, they had issued a warning to leave the site, but the order was not followed by the demonstrators, leading the authorities to intervene.
The PSP Intervention Corps intervened to remove the tents that remained in D. Pedro IV Square in Rossio, having detained some protesters who allegedly resisted.
According to CNN Portugal, there will be about a dozen detainees.
They performed throughout the area where the tents were set up, and less than a dozen remained. Twenty minutes later, virtually all protesters were expelled.
During the confusion, it was announced by the organization a demonstration at 18h00 on Tuesday.
For his part, in Porto, the group that had been camped for a week in Praça D. João I in protest for the lack of housing, decided this morning to dismantle the camp before the threat of a police intervention.
According to images transmitted by televisions, just before 6:00, the Public Security Police (PSP) gave an ultimatum to the present, demanding the withdrawal of dozens of tents and threatening the arrest of the resistance.
On Monday night, a total of 35 people had voted, in popular assembly, to remain camped.
