Cinforme the document, last year (2024-2025) the monarch paid 12.9 million pounds (15 million euros) in taxes and 11.7 million pounds (13.6 million euros) in the previous year (2023-2024).

In total, since 2022, the tax invoice has exceeded GBP 30 million (EUR 35 million), indicated the document released by Buckingham Palace.

The disclosure of this information demonstrates an effort by the British monarchy to be more transparent and arises in the context of scandals related to the King's brother, André Mountbatten-Windsor.

British monarchs are not required to pay taxes on income, inheritance tax or capital gains.

However, since 1993, Queen Elizabeth II, who died in 2022, and the then Prince, now King Charles III, paid taxes on income from the Duchy of Lancaster, consisting of rural property and real estate in cities throughout the country, and on income from personal investments.

The Sovereign Grant, awarded annually by the British Government to pay personnel costs, maintenance of buildings and travel for official commitments, is exempt.

The tax report confirmed that this financing rose to GBP 132.1 million (EUR 153 million) in fiscal year 2025-2026, and that it will rise again to GBP 137.9 million (EUR 160 million).

However, more than half of the funding continues to be spent on the preservation and protection of the Royal Palaces, which are historical heritage, including the restoration of Buckingham Palace, which has lasted for several years.

The report indicated that, after the works have been completed, the grant will be reduced to GBP 99,9 million (116 million).

The Royal House also reported that the King will not reside permanently at Buckingham Palace in central London, as his parents did.

According to the document, the Palace will remain the “ceremonial center of the activity of the royal family, the main workplace of the Royal House and a good of the national heritage with greater opportunities for public access”.

A spokesman said that Charles III “continues to cherish Buckingham Palace and a deep respect for its role.”.

“ It will remain a work residence, but we want to extend public access precisely to maximize the national benefit of a building funded with public funds,” he explained.

Last year, nearly 97,000 guests attended 827 events at Buckingham Palace.

King and Queen Camila were present at 708 events. The rest of the royal family attended 2,273 events in the UK and abroad.
