Reinaldo Teixeira starred in one of the morning panels of the first of the three days of the conference Portugal Football Summit, in the City of Football, in Oeiras, taking advantage to take stock of his presidency, started on April 11, 2025, for the remainder of the mandate initiated by Pedro Proença, current federative president, in 2023.
Recognizing some difficulties in the transition, with the emptying of some sectors of the body – “the Foundation became empty” – Reinaldo Teixeira recognized the process of centralizing audiovisual rights as the most “defiant and striking” dossier of these months, exalting discussion and approval, with a vote against and a abstention.
“ The sale of television rights will follow three steps, with the auction of production taking place by the end of the year, the sale of domestic rights, between January and March 2027, and then international rights, by the end of the season [2026/27], if everything goes well, or until December 2027, if it goes wrong”, detailed.
The president of LPFP ensured that the current television operators with rights of games of national professional competitions – SportTV and TVI – are satisfied, considering that “the quality of the Portuguese football product is attractive and other operators are also interested”.
While refusing to focus on the “less positive” aspects, the responsible acknowledged that “all noise does not help”, to then highlight some statistical aspects about increasing the useful time of gambling or assistance in competitions and call for clarification and peace in the sector.
“ We want total peace if someone has to be penalised, but we also want those who have no reason and cause noise to be punished. I think it is fair and positive to see what is wrong with getting it right”, Reinaldo Teixeira, before remembering the economic weight of football, with “assets of two billion, revenues of one billion and the payment of 300 million taxes”.
The second edition of the Portugal Football Summit conference takes place until Friday, in Football City, in Oeiras.
