François Provost, Executive Director of Renault warns that the group may have to cut its production in Europe by 300,000 units if the carbon dioxide emission targets for 2030 are not reviewed.
“ I'm worried because, if we don't get the 2030 moratorium, in a year's time I'm going to have to propose to the Board of Directors the elimination of models and the reduction of production by 300,000 units in Europe,” said François Provost at the Paris Automobile Summit (France), which brings together several executives from the sector.
Emission reduction by more than 50%
Renault’s CEO thus referred to the Community regulation requiring that, by 2030, the average carbon emissions of new cars sold by each manufacturer should be reduced by 55 percent in passenger cars and by 50 percent in vans compared to 2021.
François Provost also stressed a context marked by the competitive pressure of chinese manufacturers, and on Friday, the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA) welcomed the announcement of a provisional agreement to correct trade imbalances between the EU and China.
