A Administration of the American President, Donald Trump, added on Tuesday the humanoid robots and quadrupeds to the list of products banned from entering the United States, within the framework of measures to protect national security.

Most humanoid robots marketed in the United States are manufactured abroad, notably in China, whose companies and startups have claimed to be pioneers in a rapidly expanding sector.

“China has always strongly opposed the United States’ tendency to abusively invoke national security to repress Chinese companies,” Chinese Foreign Minister Mao Ning said at a press conference today.

“Protectionism does not improve the competitiveness of the United States. It only harms the interests of US companies and consumers,” he added.

Mao also assured that Beijing will take “the necessary measures” to defend the interests of Chinese companies.

The so-called “advanced robotic devices”, a category that includes “mobile robots”, were added to the list of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), North American telecom regulator.

The list already included certain types of drones, as well as Chinese companies such as Huawei and China Telecom.

The decision was taken on the basis of the conclusions of a working group set up by the White House.

Currently, most humanoid robots are intended for industrial applications, especially in controlled environments such as automobile factories and logistics centers.
