Rui Borges answers the challenge: “We did not come here to play opera”

O Sporting left, this Friday, behind the defeat suffered before the Académico de Viseu, in the middle of Estádio José Alvalade, for 1-2, and returned to victories in the I Liga, by taking the best over Casa Pia, in the Municipal Stadium of Rio Maior, by 0-2, to the ‘balleia’ of the goals written by Pedro Lima and Geny Catamo.

At the press conference that followed the final whistle, Rui Borges was pleased with what he saw on the team: “It was a very competent game on our part. In offensive terms, at times of great offensive quality. We have sinned again in the finalization, we are at that stage where it is difficult to make goals, but it is part of it”.

The lion coach also made a point of leaving a special word to Pedro Lima, who scored for the second consecutive game: “It is his merit, his work, and what he answered as well. Not just his, but everyone else's. Silas [Andersen] also played a beautiful game, went out for the yellow he had and because the game was getting into contact there a lot. So, happy for the answer they give, but happy, above all, for what they show their coach daily in wanting to play.”.

“It was important to return to victories, more than that, everything else is noise”

Rui Borges then refused to extend himself to comments on the uncertainty surrounding his future in the Sporting alternate bank: “Confidence is demonstrated by everyone daily, right at the head of the president. That's why I don't think anything's necessary. I know what our day to day is, I know what Sporting Academy day to day is.”.

“ Yes, we are looking to improve. Victory was important, yes, because we came from a negative result, because we were already many points – which we did not want – from the first ranked. And it was important to return to victories, more than that, everything else is noise”, he said, before journalists.

“ I felt the team always calm, realizing it had to be on. It is part of the game sometimes we fail, it is part of sometimes being with the block a little lower, but, even within the low block, the House Pia did not create any danger to us ", he added.
