Sandra Bullock opened her heart about the reaction of her children to the disease of her companion Bryan Randall, who suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ELA).
In an interview with the podcast “SmartLess”, presented by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes, the actress said that her two children, 16-year-old Louis, and 12-year-old Laila, were “totally aware” that Randall was facing the disease. The artist also explained that the children were “very insightful” at the time.
“ Totally aware. Absolutely aware, because when you come to a situation where the person is bedridden, we all have to go through it. It happened in my house, I did everything possible to organize everything that was within my reach and I was lucky to count on the financial means to bear the costs”, he also revealed.
“ They saw everything. They have eyes. And they're very, very insightful children. Very insightful, because they do not only perceive physical changes, there is also a change of behavior in all of us”, he explained.
“Louis handled it very differently from Laila. About two years before Bryan died, he realized that that dynamic wasn't healthy for him. He's very mature. He said: “I am here for you”. I didn't want him to assume the role of man of the house at that age. My role at that time was to be both,” he added.
“ I wanted him to be just a child during the pandemic, when everything was already shit... and there was suffering everywhere. So I felt guilty asking for help, since everyone else was suffering, too. But he simply chose to be present, support me and help in the things that were easier for me ", reported.
Sandra said that her daughter's reaction was different from that of her son, revealing that she managed to spend more time in Randall's company.
When asked how she managed to keep her children away, Bullock said she used a different part of the house.
Bryan Randall left modeling to become a photographer and met the actress in 2015. After her death, Sandra took a “time to take care of herself,” said a source at the time.
