“ There may not be a nuclear deal. We can simply destroy their capabilities to do [atomic weapons],” Wright said during an interview with ABC television.
The ruler added that the possibility of the United States reaching an agreement with Tehran may be postponed until the arrival of a new US administration.
Wright's statements appear after Iran today bombed an American vessel in the Strait of Ormuz in response to the US attacks on Iranian oil tankers on Saturday.
This resumption of hostilities takes place in full escalation of fuel prices due to the conflict, which began more than six months ago and interrupted traffic in the strategic Strait of Ormuz, which passed 20% of the world crude before the conflict.
Washington and Tehran have been holding direct and indirect negotiations for months to reach an agreement that will put an end to the conflict.
In June, both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding which opened a new dialogue process and included measures on Iranian reserves of enriched uranium and its reduction under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), although the negotiations did not result in a definitive nuclear agreement.
In the United States, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average price of gasoline reached the historical record of about $4.14 per gallon (3,785 liters) this weekend preceding the national holiday of Labor Day, which marks the first Monday of September and marks the end of summer in the country.
The AAA association attributed this price increase to “persistent volatility in the Strait of Ormuz, which raised the price of crude to the range of $90 per barrel.”.
