Sfiremen were injured on Saturday after being attacked during a petanque competition at a municipal stadium organized by the corporation in which they work in Gièvres, France.

According to French publications, an investigation was opened to the case, there are still no arrests or explanation for what led to the assaults.

Firefighters participated in the competition – one of several that are made in the country – when they were attacked and were taken to the hospital. The injuries were considered mild.

At least ten agents of the military forces were on site to restore calm, but “when they arrived, the aggressors, who were not yet identified or located, had already left the place,” reads La Nouvelle République.

“What is said when you organize a competition and are attacked for free? One competition and six firemen attacked. We don’t know what to think”, wrote the fire department in a shared publication on social network Facebook, without giving more details of what happened.

Also the Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, confirmed the aggression and, in a shared publication on social network X (old Twitter), described the situation as a “acceptable violence”.

“ After several verbal insults carried out by a group, six firefighters, who were off duty, were physically assaulted. They were transported to Romorantin Hospital. I condemn these acts of violence and leave all my solidarity and support to firefighters ", reads in the publication.
