The new Tesla Roadster it was announced almost a decade ago, but its presentation has been successively postponed. Now, there is for the first time an officially announced date for the release: october 1.
This Saturday (12 September), the profile of the electric car manufacturer on social network X (formerly Twitter) made a publication with the date on which you can read: “Ready for launch.”.
If doubts existed about what is in the gutter, Tesla’s executive director, Elon Musk, undone them by sharing the publication: “Revelation of the new Tesla Roadster on October 1“.
Subsequent postponements
The announcement of the new Tesla Roadster took place in November 2017When a prototype was presented. The reserves were even open for a modest amount of $50,000 at a total price of $200,000 (or $250,000 for the Founders Edition). It was promised about 1,000 km of autonomy and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in about two seconds, in a car that could reach more than 400 km/h.
It was supposed to be available in 2020, but this has not happened, and promises have not been kept since. In November last year, Elon Musk referred the release to April 1, 2026, but this did not happen. In April, at a meeting with investors, the entrepreneur suggested the possibility of the presentation taking place in May – which did not materialize.
Since 2018 Elon Musk suggests that the new Roadster may have technology from its Space X aerospace company. The Information reported in August that there might be a limited unit with cold gas thrusters – naturally unfit for use on public roads.
Tesla's strong man promised about a year ago that he would be "the most exciting product demonstration ever." In an interview with Joe Rogan's podcast, he even gave evidence that we might be facing a flying car, and also admitted that the new Tesla Roadster is “very different” from that prototype previously revealed.
Elon Musk also assured that the strategy goes through a range of autonomous driving “with the exception of the next generation of the Roadster”, even commenting that this model would be “something outside this world”.
