Sergio Conceição is on the verge of returning to active duty and is currently in early contact with Fenerbahçe. The news was originally advanced by the Turkish sports press and, in the meantime, confirmed by Sports to Minute with sources close to the process.
Portuguese is the man elected to succeed in the position of Ismail Kartal, who presented the resignation of the position of main coach on September 10, at the press conference that followed the tie to a ball with AS Rome, counting on the inaugural day of the league league phase of Champions... and the same was rejected.
Almost two months later, in the ‘rescue’ of the defeat suffered in the always ‘scalding’ derby of the ninth day of the Turkish championship, before the Galatasaray (which culminated in a defeat, by 2-1), the 65-year-old helmsman again presented the letter of termination, and in this case the same was accepted by the president, Aziz Yildrim.
For the time being, the agreement between Fenerbahçe and Sergio Conceição is not yet fully closed, but everything goes so that, soon, the former international Portuguese will even receive ‘green light’ to follow the journey to Istanbul, to accept the ninth challenge of the main coach career.
Al-Ittihad Jeddah was the last experience
Sérgio Conceição, remember, began his career as main coach in 2011, at the helm of the Olánese, having followed experiences in Academica, Sporting Braga, Vitória SC and Nantes, before, in 2017, he returned to FC Porto (where he had already shined, as a player), for the one that was the most successful period, until now.
In the space of seven years, with the club under financial difficulties, the coinbrense added 274 wins, 53 draws and 52 losses after 379 official games, which resulted in the conquest of three national champion titles, four Cups of Portugal, a League Cup and a Candido de Oliveira Super Cup.
The victory of André Villas-Boas over Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa in the elections for the presidency of the blue and white emblem led to ‘goodbye’. Still, the return to the asset took place in 2024, when it succeeded compatriot Paulo Fonseca in the technical command of an AC Milan in the middle of the sports crisis.
The conquest of an Italian Super Cup did not come to ensure continuity in the rossero alternate bank, so it returned to ‘change of air’ at the end of that same time, this time, towards Saudi Arabia, where it guided Al-Ittihad Jeddah for approximately a year until last summer.
