Cersca of 70,000 people went out to the streets of Paris today against increasing the cost of living, according to police, in a protest marked by clashes with security forces, which launched tear gas against demonstrators.
According to the youth interunion, which brings together unions or associations representing students, estimated 200,000 participants in Paris.
The protest called today to Paris by trade unions, students and the “yellow vests” movement began at 14:00 local (13:00 in Lisbon) and took place in a “pacific” way, the French news channel BFMTV reported.
The situation began, however, to “get tense” at the Porte de Charenton, the end of the route authorized by the authorities, where the front of the march had arrived almost an hour earlier.
In recent days, the protest journey has been subjected to a legal ‘go-and-go’, with judicial decisions, which ended the rejection of the route requested by the unions, between Bastille Square and Nation Square, closer to the center of the capital and in a zone with more establishments.
According to BFMTV, police used tear gas to disperse the protesters. Many wore anti-gas masks.
Confrontations were observed, in addition to objects having been launched and small fires recorded.
Prior to that, there were also attempts at unauthorized demonstrations in Paris, such as a student march with over a hundred people leaving the Bastille despite the prohibition of the police prefecture.
After negotiations between the participants and the security forces, the procession joined the main march, according to the public broadcaster Franceinfo.
Today, the third day of mobilization, after October 17 and 24, was considered “high risk” by the French Government.
