José Mourinho says he boycotted the press conference that followed Real Madrid-Villarreal because of what happened in the “first minute”. Iturralde González, former arbiter, warns that the Portuguese coach “knows a lot about football, but regulations know less”, and Roberto Gómez, journalist, appeals to the action of RFEF.

José Mourinho is once again in the ‘eye of the hurricane’, due to the way he started, this Tuesday, the press conference forecasting to the one that is one of the most anticipated meetings of the second day of the league phase of the Champions League, which will place, face to face, AS Roma and the ‘your’ Real Madrid, in the Olympic Stadium of Rome.
Asked about the reasons why he refused to appear before journalists last Saturday, after the victory over Villarreal in Santiago Bernabéu, for 1-0, the Portuguese coach refused to go into details, and said: “I invite you all to see the first minute. Just watch a minute, that's enough. For those who know, one minute is enough”.
Now, ‘pulling the tape behind’, when the clock counted one minute and four seconds, the arbitration team led by Días de Mera marked a milimetric outgame to Kylian Mbappé, after passing from Federico Valverde. Instants later, in a similar bid, Ayoze Pérez received the ball in apparently irregular position, which was not detected.
The first move was promptly interrupted, so there was no follow-up. The second, for its part, unfolded naturally, and, in the light of the current protocol of the VAR, it could have even scored, but, to prove the out of play, it would always be cancelled.
“José Mourinho knows a lot about football, but regulations know less”
Already this Tuesday, Eduardo Iturralde González, former international referee and current analyst of the program ‘El Largaro‘, issued by Spanish radio Cadena SER, did not spare in the criticisms of Special One, shooting: “José Mourinho knows a lot about football, but regulations know less.”.
“The first move, from Mbappé, comes when it comes from an out-of-game position, receives the ball and passes back, in the midfield. In that case, the assistant, following the VAR protocol, must lift the flag. On the other hand, Ayoze's does not lift it, because it is an attack and can end in goal ", clarified.
“ That is the difference, but to do so, we must understand regulations. He, of football, knows a lot, but, of regulations, I already give him the luxury of deciding”, he added, before looking at the fact that the former Benfica technician raised doubts about the time of the announcement of arbitration teams.
“Neither does the referee know, three weeks earlier. In Spain, it is known from Thursday to Sunday, except in the derby [the defeat of Real Madrid before the Atlético de Madrid, at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, by 2-1], which was known, but it was week and a half before, not three weeks earlier. Nor does this happen in Europe”, he added.
“ It seems to me a very serious situation”
Who also did not miss ‘in white’ the words of José Mourinho was the journalist Roberto Gómez, who, this Wednesday, in the program ‘La Tribu‘, from Radio Marca, ‘fired’: “Real Madrid does well to complain about decisions, and above all of referees’ performances. What seems very serious to me are the statements of Mourinho, yesterday”.
“ The statements seem very strong. He is clearly questioning arbitration decisions and action, claiming that, premeditatedly, the referee will harm Real Madrid, and this is a very serious matter (...). He has to worry, not only the Technical Committee of Arbiters, but also the Federation and Spanish football,” he warned.
“ It seems to me a very serious situation, the words of yesterday, because it is questioning the entire Spanish competition (...) We can't handle this with hot pants. What is needed is a response by the presidency of the Real Spanish Football Federation ", concluded the reporter.
