O king of Spain, Felipe VI, said, this Thursday, that the country suffered, “again, a hard blow”, in the face of the railway accident that killed at least 74 people, but stressed that it is necessary to “continue to advance”, despite “without ever forgetting the wound that leaves us so many people who died”.

“ We wanted to devote some time to the families and the wounded who are here. In the face of this anguish and sadness that we all feel for the tragedy of Adamuz, we want to express our respect, our sorrow for the people who died and their families. At this moment, the most important thing is to accompany and give affection to the wounded and to all who accompany them ", began by saying the monarch, who was accompanied by Queen Letizia Ortiz, at the exit of Toledo Hospital, where more than 20 wounded are.

Felipe VI also thanked “all those who provided assistance, all those who continue to work to rescue, identify the bodies, provide care to the injured, give psychological support, and do everything possible to give encouragement to families”, while pointing out that, “as a society, we have once again suffered a hard blow”.

“ We must continue to move forward, even in this pain, without ever forgetting the wound that leaves us so many people who have died, which we need, which are needed by their families, the whole country. Let's move on with your memory, with the pain for your loss. Let's do it together, together. Let us also do it with dignity and rigor ", said.

The monarch assured that “there is, of course, an ongoing investigation”, which “should determine how and why this catastrophe occurred”.

“ It will be necessary to study the measures to be taken so that this does not happen again”, he said.

The head of state and the woman canceled the entire public agenda by Friday. The monarch was in Bétera, Valencia, where he attended exercises on a military basis, and returned to Madrid to “follow the emergency and learn more” about the accident.

It should be noted that, according to the final assessment of the Commission for the Investigation of Railway Accidents in Spain (CIAF), at least 74 people died following the collision between two high-speed trains in Toledo on Wednesday morning.

There are also reports of more than 100 injured, 60 of whom have been discharged. Still, 50 remain hospitalized, 15 of which in “critical state”, in Intensive Care Units.

This was the second train accident with high-speed trains this year in Spain, after that of Adamuz, in Córdoba, in January, in which 46 people died and which was mentioned by Felipe VI today during the statements to journalists.
