ANDm different cultures, before entering home, the shoes are left at the door or even at the entrance. Do you have this habit of taking off your shoes or do you end up walking in with them and going to various divisions? A doctor reveals what he does and the health reasons that are at the base of his choice.
Amir Khan is a doctor and in his TikTok account he revealed everything he always wanted to say to people who come home with their shoes after coming out on the street and having been with them all day.
Take off your shoes when you get home: That is the reason for this
“If you're like me and take off your shoes as soon as you come home, it's a sign of respect when you're in someone else's house, but it can also reduce the risk of insects and chemicals that are taken into the house” he began by saying in the video, quoted here by Mirror.
“ The shoes can have a lot of bacteria. Let's be honest: animals poop and pee on the street, so things like E. coli, which has been associated with stomach infections and urinary tract infections, can be brought into the house through our shoes”, continue.
It reveals that other bacteria can also end up entering the house in small doses, and it is not good to have them around. It leaves even more reason to leave the street shoes outside the house.
“ Another important factor is pollen, dust and mold. All this is also present, and if you suffer from allergic rhinitis or other allergies, it is important to reduce the amount of these substances entering the home. So take off your shoes” leave the warning.
However, and despite having several associated problems, it is appropriate to create some defenses for the immune system. “Not all dirt is bad. It can help train the immune system and build a healthier organism. But I don’t want certain outside things to come into the house,” continues Amir Khan.
This is what happens when you don't take your shoes off when you get home
Many people are already in the habit of taking off their shoes during the day on the street and at work as soon as they get home. If you still don't, know that you're only bringing bacteria into the housing. And they're thousands.
Jill Litt, professor of environmental studies at the University of Colorado in the United States, recommends removing shoes when entering the home. The website House Beautiful reports that it reduces dirt inside and traces of feces.
It explains that you should pay special attention if you have children at home, who usually walk around the floor a lot. “The contact of the hand with the mouth is one of the main forms of exposure of children to toxic substances and agents of infectious diseases”, he continues.
It also explains that in some cities pesticides used in public gardens can be brought home. Jill Litt also speaks of a study from the University of Arizona that identified more than 421,000 bacteria that were brought from abroad.
For two weeks, 10 participants wore new shoes abroad and then walked home with them. E. coli was one of the bacteria found.
