Odata were advanced by the councillor of the Presidency, Health and Emergency of the Junta da Andalucia, Antonio Sanz, who classified the fire as “complex”, due to the wind and the vast forest mass concentrated in the area.
The fire broke out in a mountainous area near Benahavis, a luxury town that hosts an important foreign community, including many British, needed the emergency services of the Andalusian region in a statement.
“One person suffered burns when trying to put out the fire and a forest fireman was injured following a fall,” wrote the emergency services on social networks. The latter fractured his wrist, while a third person received medical attention due to a slight smoke inhalation, he told journalists Antonio Sanz.
Authorities asked the 9,500 inhabitants of the picturesque village of Benahavís and the neighboring villages to stay at home because of the “very rapid spread” of the flames.
The 50 displaced persons are residents of the Montemayor Alto neighborhood and the preventive confinement also includes isolated dwellings in the north and west and in the La Coja neighborhood.
More than 200 firefighters, supported by about twenty aircraft, were mobilized to the site.
According to the European Forest Fire Information System, over 296,000 hectares of land were affected by fires this year in Spain.
