O president of the United States, Donald Trump, today accused Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky of “not wanting to put an end” to the war with Russia in the context of a recent increase in tensions between Washington and Kiev.

“ With all the money that, as is well known, Europe is giving him and that the ‘turned’ Joe Biden [former President of the United States] gave him, he does not want to end this war and probably never wanted it,” Trump wrote on his platform, Truth Social.

“I want this war to end,” continued the American leader, using capital letters to emphasize the message and to justify Washington’s recent decisions in favor of Moscow.

Trump also ensured that Zelensky could have achieved two years ago “a better deal than he can now”.

“ His country is chaos, much of his territory has been lost, his oceans and seas no longer exist and his male population is at least wounded and/or dead”, he argued.

The US President defended his decision not to impose further sanctions against Russia, as well as the agreement between Washington and Moscow, announced days earlier, allowing the United States to import Russian oil.

Trump also argued that the so-called Graham Act on new sanctions against Russia would now be signed, and that Russia would withdraw from the negotiations.

And he pointed out another argument: “Russia is doing very little to help the Islamic Republic of Iran compared to what it might be doing.”.

“I want it to stay that way and so it will be unless stupid people get in the way,” he added.

Finally, he insisted on the “serious damage” that Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries are in his vision to do, “also in the United States.”.

Ukraine has been counting on financial and armament aid from Western allies since Russia invaded the country on 24 February 2022.

The attacks have been intensifying in recent months on both sides of the front, making an increasing number of civilian victims, and negotiations between the two sides are at a standstill.

Head of US diplomacy relativizes sanctions against Moscow

The head of US diplomacy, Marco Rubio, relativized Donald Trump's decision to exempt Russia from further sanctions, stating that this is a pause to examine the economic effects of the measures.
