A Ukraine attacked an oil terminal in the Rostov region in southern Russia, following the announcement of a diesel supply agreement reached by the Russian and American presidents, Russian authorities reported today.

The attack caused a fire at a terminal responsible for the storage and fuel pumping of the Novoshakhtinsk refinery, which had already been hit by Ukrainian drones on July 9, needed the Russian independent channel Astra.

During the night attack, in which more than 100 drones were killed, “a railway bridge was also damaged,” local governor Yuri Slyusar said.

“Train traffic has been interrupted in both directions. We're getting information on possible victims. Emergency services are working on site,” he said.

Later, Slyusar pointed out that six people were injured and several buildings and private houses suffered damage.

Rostov was one of 16 regions targeted by Ukrainian forces at night, together with Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014, and the Black and Azov seas, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“ Last night, (...) anti-aircraft defenses intercepted and destroyed 560 Ukrainian drones,” said Russian military command, quoted by the Spanish agency EFE.

The attack on the Russian oil facility takes place a few hours after the Russian and American leaders reached an agreement on the supply of oil products by Russia.

The agreement was reached on Friday, during a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, to lower diesel prices on the international marketE.

“Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the US and world markets,” Trump announced on the social network that he owns after “an extremely successful conversation” with Putin.

Trump said that Russia will provide “500,000 tons during the month of November and a million tons immediately thereafter.”.

“ In addition, according to the state of its diesel refineries, Russia will deliver — in the short term — three million tonnes of diesel fuel,” the EFE added.

Trump's announcement comes at a time of concern in the White House (presidency) and Republican Party regarding the polls for the mid-term elections of November 3.

Democrats appear with seven points of advantage over Republicans, largely due to popular discontent with the high prices of diesel and the cost of living.

Putin's decision takes place after several months when Russia faced a severe fuel shortage, causing extensive queues in the service stations due to successive Ukrainian attacks on the Russian refineries.

Trump has pressured the Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, to stop attacks on Russian refineries, claiming that they are having a direct impact on diesel prices.

Zelensky reacted immediately to the agreement between Moscow and Washington, classifying it as unfair and “unworthy of an ally”.

For Zelensky, the agreement gives Russia the opportunity to export diesel instead of strengthening the sanctions motivated by the war against Ukraine initiated by Moscow in February 2022.

Trump and Putin wake up: Russia will supply millions of tons of oil

Donald Trump announced an agreement with Vladimir Putin for the immediate supply of thousands of tons of Russian oil to US and world markets. The US President believes that this measure will cause an “unprecedented descent” in fuel prices.
