A Venezuela was shaken on Wednesday by two earthquakes that left the country in a state of emergency. It is estimated that there may be thousands of dead and while many come together to help in rescue and rescue work there are those who try to use the power of the Internet to help as well.
Thus, in a few hours, at least two sites have been created, containing lists of missing persons, emergency contacts and information about the people who have already been found.
“Venezuela te busca” [Venezuela is looking for you] is a solidarity site where a thousand requests for help have already been registered. However, updated data at this moment indicate that three have already been found and another 997 remain at uncertain location.
“Every name here is a family that is waiting”, you can read on the main page of the platform.
People register is free and open to everyone. You can access the site here.
Another platform was also created with a larger list of missing persons. In Missing Earthquake Venzuela, more than 9,000 requests for help have already been recorded.
“We reconnect families” can read on the website that will have already helped to find more than 500 people.
Sism in Venezuela
Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.5 and 7.2 hit the central region of Venezuela causing material damage that are still being evaluated. The interim president of the country, Delcy Rodríguez, has already declared the state of emergency and has also asked all health professionals in the country to report to the hospitals to assist anyone injured.
So far, there is no official record of injuries or deaths, although Venezuela has already registered 20 replicas.
The United States Geological Service (USGS) estimated that the number of deaths should amount to thousands, with a substantial probability of exceeding 10,000, using forecast models. The forecast interval dictated, in concrete, between 10 and 100,000 dead.
The tremors were also felt in the Caribbean and northeastern regions of Colombia, but there was no record of damage or injury.
