O Ukrainian President announced today that the number of deaths following the Russian attack on a school in the Zaporíjia region rose to 40 and criticized the “very weak” reaction of the international community to this “war crime”.
“ Unfortunately, the international community's reaction to this attack has been very weak. But this, like the thousands and thousands of other war crimes that Russia has committed against Ukraine and Ukrainians, demand a firm reaction,” Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
The previous balance sheet released this morning by the Ukrainian authorities accounted for 37 deaths in this Russian attack against the village of Komyshuvakha, namely a school serving as a humanitarian aid distribution centre.
The Ukrainian leader warned that around “30 people may still be under the rubble” and that there have been “search and rescue operations at the site of the attack” three days ago.
The Russian forces attacked this post, according to the Ukrainian authorities, with nine ‘glide bombs’.
“ The Russians dropped nine bombs. First, they attacked the people who had gone for humanitarian aid and then the rescuers and the police who arrived at the site,” the Ukrainian leader described.
Zelensky has also strengthened requests for support in the field of air defence to deal with the increasingly frequent bombings.
The Ukrainian leader, who met today with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, thanked Berlin for its support for the air defense of Ukraine, notably with the contract to supply PAC-2 interceptor missiles and ammunition to Ukrainian F-16s.
On Tuesday, Zelensky met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin in anticipation of talks between Ukrainian and Russian delegations scheduled for 10 and 11 this month in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
The talks will involve Ukrainian, Russian and American negotiators, but the Europeans were left out, something Merz protested, demanding presence at the negotiating table.
“ There cannot be a stable peace if Europe does not sit at the negotiating table,” Zelensky said in agreement with the German Chancellor during the joint press conference after the meeting on Tuesday.
Today, at Telegram, Zelensky argued that on several occasions, it was “precisely the German leadership that helped save thousands and thousands of lives.”.
Also on the diplomatic front, the European Commission is holding a meeting in Brussels today between European, Ukrainian and American representatives who will focus on the reconstruction and prosperity of Ukraine after the end of the war.
This meeting had been announced on Monday night by the United States Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and was confirmed on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Community Executive.
The meeting will include representatives from Ukraine, the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, NATO and the World Bank.
