“ Gwe would like him to want peace as much as we in Ukraine,” Zelensky said, referring to Xi in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Ukrainian President had declared shortly before he expected the war with Russia to end before winter.

Zelensky recalled that he discussed it on Tuesday at a meeting with President Donald Trump on the margins of the annual UN session, and regretted not having had the opportunity to deal with it with the Chinese counterpart.

Xi begins today in Washington a visit to the United States, which does not include a stop at the UN headquarters in New York.

“ We need diplomacy and we need strength,” said the Ukrainian President in his speech about the demands he deems necessary to force the Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to accept the end of the conflict.

Zelensky also called on all UN Member States to do everything in their power to deprive Russia of the financial resources necessary for its war effort.

In this regard, it has unnamedly reinforced the criticisms of the lifting of EU sanctions against two Russian oligarchs, under pressure from France, Luxembourg and Slovakia.

The Ukrainian leader stated that the war against his country has consequences in other parts of the world and set an example for improvements in ballistic missiles and drones that North Korea received in exchange for sending soldiers to join the ranks of the Russian army.

By the way, it revealed that Kyiv sent two North Korean prisoners of war captured in combat zones to South Korea.

Zelensky stressed that military personnel from 47 countries, especially from Africa, Asia and Latin America, were recruited by the Russian army for their campaign in Ukraine, and asked their respective governments to protect their citizens and prevent them from joining the war alongside Moscow.

It also pointed out Ukraine's joint efforts with a dozen European countries to build its own anti-aircraft system to intercept ballistic missiles and confirmed the signing of agreements with Finland and Australia, inviting the Persian Gulf countries to join the initiative.

In addition, he warned that technologies such as artificial intelligence “will start to make decisions about what happens on the battlefield,” warning leaders present in New York that peace must be achieved “before it comes to that”.

In his speech at the UN General Assembly, Zelensky again accused Vladimir Putin of seeking war rather than peace, predicting the failure of the invasion of Ukraine.

“ This ridiculous war with Ukraine must end. I don’t know any other world leader who says otherwise, who is openly in favor of this war, except for one man,” he said, referring to the leader of the Kremlin.

The Ukrainian leader noted that the Kyiv authorities keep a archive of drone images showing “thousands and thousands of Russians dying” on the battlefield.

“It’s crazy, but they keep going to these death zones to die, and they keep doing it because it’s what Putin wants,” he condemned.

In his speech, he pointed out about 248 thousand Russian soldiers killed in combat only between January and August 2026 to conquer only 1,000 square kilometers, while the Ukrainian military released “a significant part” of the territory.

Zelensky reaffirmed that the plans of the Russian counterpart do not limit the eastern region of the Donbass and also target Odessa, Kharkiv, Dnipro and other cities in and out of the country.

“It constantly threatens Moldova, Poland and the Baltic countries. You never seem to be able to say enough. Can you imagine? Putin without war?” he questioned.

Kyiv’s goal is to end “Russia’s ability to finance, prolong and make the war more brutal and destructive,” he pointed out with regard to the frequent air strikes of Ukrainian forces against energy targets or facilities supporting the Russian military effort.

In the face of the general assembly, Zelensky criticized the abuse of veto power held by the Russian Federation and the other four permanent members of the UN Security Council, which “distant peace even further, since Russia can always say no to diplomacy” as a solution to the conflict.

Classified as “patient zero” and the man who started “the biggest war in Europe since World War II”, Vladimir Putin “will inevitably have to leave the world,” said the Ukrainian leader

“ But as long as it continues to wage war, it will continue to cause more damage throughout the planet,” he added, adding that “nothing can stop it except the courage of the people” and hoping that “the courage and bravery will remain”.
