A fat accumulates very easily on all kitchen surfaces, from cabinets, countertops and even lamps, especially when fried.
Now, the best way to keep the kitchen clean – and free of fat – is to prevent, according to a Real Simple article.
Write down these seven simple tips that will make your life a lot easier and save you hours of work.
1. Cover the flat surfaces
If you check the top of your kitchen cabinets it is very likely you will find a thick layer of fat and powder (unless you have recently cleaned them).
To facilitate cleaning, use vegetable paper, foil or other material to cover this area. You can throw them in the trash and replace them with someone else whenever you need them.
2. Always turn on the kitchen exhaust
The kitchen exhaust not only serves to remove the odors from the food, it also sucks up suspended fat particles in the air and helps keep them away from other surfaces.
Keep the filters clean to get the best exhaust performance and clean this once per season.
3. Use splash protectors
When frying food, always have a lid or splash protector by hand. This will facilitate the task of cleaning the stove. You can also cover other small appliances with kitchen cloths and prevent the fat from fixing on these.
4. Reduce temperatures
Cooking in high heat causes the oil to sneeze more and smoke, which contains small particles of fat that end up depositing somewhere. If possible, lower the heat when cooking.
5. Use alternative cooking methods
Avoid frying food. Air fryer is a great alternative, because in addition to using very little fat (being better for health), it does not soil the surfaces so much.
6. Clean the kitchen after each meal
The best thing will be to spend 10 minutes cleaning your kitchen after preparing each meal, than spending hours taking out accumulated fat.
Clean the stove, countertops and other surfaces with a cloth and a multipurpose detergent or cleansing vinegar.
7. Increase the kitchen ventilation
Whenever you're cooking, leave the kitchen window open. This will help the fat not to accumulate on the surfaces as the site ventilation is ensured.
