A iberia airline changes, from Tuesday, June 23, the denominations for the different types of baggage with which its passengers can travel. The goal, he says, is to make the booking of flights simpler and clearer.
The airline clarifies that the change affects only the nomenclature used to identify the different types of baggage and does not imply any changes in the dimensions, weights or transport conditions currently in force.
So what until now was called personal accessory, it is called “personal handbag”. Here, bags are inserted as backpacks or computer folders, which fit under the seat.
In relation to the suitcase carried in the upper compartments of the cabin, previously identified as “cab baggage”, it will be distinguished according to the weight allowed. On Class Tourist and Premium Tourist flights, hand luggage may be up to 10 kilos, while in Business class the limit remains at 12 kilos., reports Telecinco.
The changes are already visible in the purchase of tickets through direct channels, both on the website and in the application of the Spanish airline.
The measure is implemented after the EU has agreed, after 12 years of negotiations, on new rights for air passengers.
EU agrees on new rights for air passengers
The agreement reached reviews the rules on passenger rights, which have not been updated since 2004 and have been negotiated for 12 years, and now needs to be approved by the European Parliament (EP) and the Council of the European Union (EU) in order to enter into force.
Among the measures agreed by the two European institutions is compensation for delays of more than three hours, a measure that already exists, but which the EU Council wanted to review so that it would only apply to delays of more than four hours.
The compensation values remain exactly the same as those currently in force: 250 euros for trips up to 1,500 kilometres, 400 euros for trips between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometres and 600 euros for longer journeys.
Among the new rules provided for, is also “the prohibition of refusing to board a passenger because he did not have a previous flight” – as in cases where, on a round trip, only the return flight is used – or “the right to carry on board, without additional fee, a personal item, such as a small bag or backpack”.
Airlines, intermediaries and research portals also have to always display “air fare, including hand baggage at the beginning of the booking process”, to “facilitate price comparisons between different airlines”.
New rights are also provided for persons with disabilities or reduced mobility, who have “the right to compensation, rerouting and assistance from airlines if they have missed a flight due to the fact that the airport has not helped them get to the boarding door on time”.
Children and people with reduced mobility will also be able to sit next to the person accompanying them at no extra cost.
