A Camped in Lisbon today said that the decision of the Lisbon Administrative Court, which it considered, that the limit of 00:30 for demonstrations is not “absolute and automatic”, represented a victory of the demonstrators and the right to demonstration.
According to the sentence, to which Lusa had access today, the protest may continue until November 24, 2026, the date scheduled for the final vote of the State Budget for 2027, including between 12:30 and 6:30, and will have to be articulated with the Christmas Market scheduled for Praça D. Pedro IV, commonly designated Rossio.
The decision stems from a subpoena for the protection of rights, freedoms and guarantees brought by a protester, Renata Cambra, against the Ministry of Internal Administration and the Municipality of Lisbon and, in the case, was not assessed “the legality of a collective occupation” of Rossio or the recognition of a general right to assemble “tenders in public space by an indefinite number of participants”.
The Lisbon Camp thus states that tents are a symbol and that the time does not justify the dispersion of protests.
“ After three violent police interventions, dozens of injured people and several arrests, this decision represents a victory of the Lisbon Camp and the right to demonstration ", said the Lisbon Camp, in a statement published on social networks.
“We do not forget police repression, nor will we stop demanding responsibilities. This victory was won by the collective organization, solidarity and resistance of those who did not abandon the streets ", added the group.
According to the Camp, the court confirmed “what always” it defended: “the hour alone does not justify the dispersion of a demonstration, and tents are instruments of protest, not camping”.
“Our struggle never needed the authorization of a court to be fair. The housing crisis continues, our demands remain and no batonada will make us give up ", highlighted.
In the note, the Campada thanks Renata Cambra, who had the initiative with the Court, and considers that “although the process was presented on behalf of the individual, victory is collective”.
“ Their reach is not limited to those who started it, but extends to all people who organize themselves and camp for the right to housing ", he considered.
The Lisbon camp stressed that today it returns to Rossio from 19:30.
