ANDbetween 200 and 300 people participated at 19:30 in the Lisbon Camp for the right to housing, which today returned to Praça D. Pedro IV (Rossio), in the center of the capital.
The initiative has been taking place today without incident, with the 12th popular assembly starting in Lisbon at 19:25, without any disturbance of the circulation in the square and without tents or police being seen.
In Rossio, the director-general of the Academic Association of Coimbra is still present.
Today's programming includes the performance of several artists, including Carolina Deslandes.
The PSP dispersed on Sunday morning, with batonada and with the use of dogs, demonstrations for the right to housing in Lisbon and Porto, after more than two hours of tension and orders for people to leave and tents to be removed.
The demonstrators did not follow orders, invoking the constitutional right to the demonstration.
The intervention took place after other similar ones in Porto, on October 15, and in Lisbon, on October 20, all of which originated arrests and injuries.
The Internal Administration Inspectorate (IGAI) opened a process following police interventions that took place on Sunday morning in Lisbon and Porto. Also the ombudsman asked the PSP, urgently, information about the police load on Sunday morning about the protesters.
The leftist parties criticized police intervention and asked the Prime Minister for clarification and the intervention of the President of the Republic.
The head of state appealed on Tuesday to the dialogue on housing “and never to violence”, stating that he did not like the images he saw, but that he awaits the results of the surveys on police action on demonstrators.
The protesters demand the reversal of the new rental law, the end of demolitions and evictions without an alternative housing, a stop to the purchase of housing by real estate funds, the increase in public housing, the recovery of vacant buildings for housing purposes and ceilings “truely accessible” to income.
