O avampada do Porto movement today welcomed the availability of the mayor for a public meeting in the Rivoli Theatre and reiterated that they were not able to meet on Tuesday in the Paços do Conselho.

In a missive to which Lusa had access, the movement, which since October 10th is in protest in Praça D. João I against the costs of housing, points out that, after the “deployable and avoidable events that took place in the early hours of November 1st”, when a police intervention to demobilize the protest caused more than 30 wounded and seven detainees, has been “priorizing the care and legal monitoring of the detainees, as well as safeguarding the physical and psychological integrity of all the people involved”.

The missive, who responds to another by the office of the mayor, Pedro Duarte, explains that the refusal to invite him to meet on Tuesday “had already been deliberated by the Assembly, with the aggravating fact that the proposed date and time was suggested soon after another aggression and without consideration of the time and good faith for guarantees of security and transparency of all the camp members and participants of the cause”.

“ This decision does not constitute a refusal of institutional dialogue, but rather respect for the processes of discussion and collective deliberation of the Camp ", explains the movement.

Pedro Duarte’s office, in the letter sent to that movement, highlights the “systematic manifestation of willingness to dialogue” by the mayor and states that, among the topics to be addressed at the meeting proposed for Tuesday, would be the “preparation and possible scheduling of an extended meeting (which may take place at the Rivoli Theatre or other municipal space)”:

The movement welcomes the availability of the mayor: “We welcome the availability of the mayor for this public session in Rivoli, a proposal that had already been approved by the Assembly and publicly released,” he says.

“ We believe that these issues [related to the right to housing] should be the subject of discussion in the People's Assembly, in public and open space, ensuring participation and equal consideration of the different positions involved ", point out.

This afternoon, at 19:20, more than a hundred people await the beginning of the popular assembly in D. John I Square which, as usual, will decide how to contest the night and discuss issues that the movement considers appropriate.
