The Argentine Public Prosecutor requested 12 years in prison and 10 years of professional inabilitation for Diego Maradona's private physician Leopoldo Luque, accused of simple murder with eventual intent. Five other defendants were also the subject of applications for sentences, while one was acquitted.

O argentine public prosecutor today requested a sentence of 12 years in prison and 10 of professional inabilitation for the private doctor of former footballer Diego Armando Maradona, who died in 2020, neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque.
Luque is charged with the crime of murder with possible intent.
For the other five defendants, sentences of four to ten years were requested and absolution for a seventh.
Also due to the crime of murder with possible intent, prosecutors requested a 10-year sentence in prison and another 10 of professional inabilitation for the home care coordinator of private medicine company Swisse Medical, Nancy Forlini.
According to psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, eight years of imprisonment and 10 years of professional incapacity were requested.
The psychologist Carlos Díaz incurs a sentence of five years in prison and 10 of inabilitation and for the nursing chief Mariano Perroni and the nurse Ricardo Almirón were asked for four years in prison and eight years and inabilitation, being the three accused of the crime of manslaughter.
For the clinical doctor Pedro Di Spagna, who visited Maradona only once, he was asked to acquit, for “having no power or decision-making capacity to conduct the patient’s health”.
Diego Armando Maradona, the Argentine hero of the 1986 World Championship, died on November 25, 2020, aged 60, while undergoing domestic treatment.
According to prosecutor Patricio Ferrari, the doctors who followed him “violated the duties of his positions, carried out actions contrary to good medical practices, omitted all acts that should have been performed and left Maradona in a situation of helplessness, delivered to her own luck”.
In the closing statements, the promoters described the treatment as “anarchical” and “absolute disorganization”, pointing out Luque and Forlini as the main responsible.
The trial on Maradona's death began on April 14, in the outskirts of Buenos Aires, and counted on 45 hearings dedicated to the production of evidence, 75 testimonies and the presentation of a hundred messages extracted from the accused's phones.
